Wah!!! Long Time No Post Ah!!!

Finally, limpeh is BACK!!! Hahaha... I was busy doing my thesis and the last few weeks were hell to me. Didn't come check my blog and also never post anything for so long since the last time! Oh well, still managed to squeeze in some sessions at Iron Cove for about an hour plus when my brother was here in Sydney. Also felt damn bad that when my good friend Jialiang was here in Sydney, I couldn't find time to meet him. So GTK, this blog is dedicated to you! Haha.. kan brokeback leh! Went off with Chen on a Saturday morning first light operation just before meeting my bro. Action was so so. As it has been awhile, I couldn't recall the events that happened. So I'll keep this blog short. As I bought a new pack of Gulp 2inch pumpkinseed grub, decided to start using it. The breams like it. But it's one gulp = one fish, damn expensive!

This 26cm bream fell victim to it. Soon later, the grub was totally thrashed. Put on a new one and minutes later, got a better size, a 28cm.

This one worse, the gulp totally disappear. They are too soft! Very easy to come off! Anyway, ended the session with another flattie on the gulp.

I remembered losing 5 gulps at one go and only got 4 fish. Not worth it man, but they can catch fish nonetheless. Well, for 20 in a pack, it's still quite ok lah. Better stop being so reliant on them.

Went off to IC again on my own the next day for 1st light just before meeting my bro to return his rental car. The night before I had modded the Lucky Craft Tango 45SP and so make it a point to use it 1st. A few casts later, suddenly there was a strong 'BUMP' feeling! Almost scare the crap out of me! But this bugger didn't run, and the headshakes straightaway tell me it must be a flathead. But the weight was quite massive, and when near the surface, it was indeed a good size. Then I couldn't see the lure visibly and knew I was in trouble. She kept thrashing whenever her head was out and I could instantly feel the line rubbing. Quickly loosen the drag a bit and steer my rod to keep the leader away from the teeth. There was no run at all and I pull her to the stairs. Went down and tried to lip grip her but she wouldn't cooperate! Wah lao, I could still feel the leader rubbing! In the end, maybe after about 3 minutes, she was coaxed and opened her mouth for me to grip successfully. Phew! A 67cm flathead 'hao-lian' picture was taken! Hehe...

The tango was badly scratched. But, not bad for a lure to be de-virginised in a BIG way! Anyway, as time was running out, I opted to go gulping again. Same thing happened. 1 gulp = 1 fish, diew!

Got this 26cm bream and decided to call off this session. Saw some tournament boats working around the UTS rowers club and knew it was the Berkley Summer Series. Fwah, see the pro boats I salivate on the spot!

Then crazily enough, I went for another session the same day for last light! Tried the La Montage area also for an hour. Not so good, only managed to get a 28cm bream but it ran quite well. Also same thing, 1 gulp = 1 fish. Remembered I did give Tango another swim and there was a take but no hookup. Then it got dark and I left.

That was the 3 short sessions I squeezed in 2 weeks to cure my thesis itch. But now, I've handed in my thesis, FINALLY!!!

A New "LUCKY" Lure

Haven't been blogging since I'm on the verge of handing in my thesis. But, hand itchy leh, so how? Use it on the mouse loh! Then use on what...? hahahaha... write write write then suddenly will sidetrack to eBay. Haven't really own a good LuckyCraft lure so saw this Tango 45SP and decided to bid it. Got it on the 2nd bid but not cheap leh. Ended up paying AU$19 for it.

Had it for quite some time in the package but decided to mod it one night.

Then, seeing that it has became a 'super slow' floater, I couldn't resist giving it a swim. Sneaked out for a super fast 1st light and..... *drum roll*.....

Write thesis 1st lah, finish liao then I'll BLOG it!

Uncle TED And Some Goodies

In dedication to blokey stuffs for this blog, I will present yet another case of recently acquired Tooheys Extra Dry aka Uncle TED. 'Life is like a case of TED, you never know which bottle will make you drunk'.. (spoken in sober state). YUMMMmmmm...... Sssss... SENG!!!!

Buy beer already then next things buy what? Lures loh! Then? Cosmetics ah? Handbags ah?
No point post pictures of my instant noodles and coffee powder right? Ok, I talk too much shit. Anyway, just received a parcel from dear Father Muldoon that I got something from the Land Of The Rising Sun, BANZAI! It's my 1st "WALK-THE-DOG" lure from Megabass called 'Dog-X Jr'. Nice finishing touch of this SG-Ayu coloured lure. Since my tackle is light, have to opt for the Jr' version going at 71mm and weigh 5.8g. Haven't learnt the proper technique to bring this dog out for a walk. Will do soon.

BANZAI! Got another lure from the same seller and it's a EverGreen Combat Crank Mini MR. Pity it's a non-rattle lure but from what I can barely make out of the jap words at the back of the package, it has a magnet that will cause the ball bearing to fall in place when casted, thus giving the extra distance in windy conditions. Don't know true a not. Japanese lures are nice looking lah, but can catch fish or not that's another different story leh. The bright chartreuse colour hopefully will work well at night luring sessions.

Price wise, ok lah. I save a lot on shipping and 2 lures total cost me around AU$24. 12 bucks each for Megabass and EverGreen you tell me go where and find? Don't think the Dog-X Jr needs to mod but for the Mini Combat Crank, yes. Got time then do lah. Thesis is really killing me.

Maybe A Before-Rain Theory?

In the previous blogs, I did mentioned about some bullshit theory about after-rain good fishing. But seems like I can make my own before-rain theory. This is what happened. Theory more than curry..

Suddenly feel like need to go cure my lure itch, I checked the winds and it seems ok for Le Montage. Since I had quite a good session the last round few days before, I thought I needed badly to get proof for the ANRE'S Rapid. Went to the last hour before last light. Damn, reached there to see that the water too shallow even after 2 hours from the lowest tide. No choice but just try with Mojo grub 1st. Totally dead, except I saw another lurer there getting a bream on hardbody. After 1 hour of wasting my casts there, the sky darkens. Action begins..

This time, it was Rapid at the end of the 5lb Nitlon DARM. Made a far cast with the wind assist and within a few cranks, got a hit. Good, I stopped the lure for a few seconds and began super slow crank with a few twitches. Suddenly line went solid and a lousy fight ensued. Got a boring fight from a 29cm bream but nonetheless Rapid 45DSP no longer a bream virgin.

After I released that fish, I made the next cast at the exact same spot (i think same spot although pitch black, how the hell i can see??). Crank crank crank suddenly dear kixy goes zzzzz. Fwah, orgase on the spot siah! Bloody hell the place so pitch black I can't see shit how my line goes also. 1st thought it might be a big bream but when near my feet, the headtorch shined a 38cm whiting! My personal best man! Happy like F.

This time I was very satisfied with the rapid. Could it be my answer to an alternative SX40? It sure can man! After a lull period of around 15 minutes, got another solid take near my feet. This 30cm bream pulled the line like nobody business! Went for about 5 dashes and instantly earned my R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

Next up, the lull period longer liao. But I was still confident that the racing incoming tide will bring more fishes in. So hang on longer and got rewarded for the perseverance. It only made one short dash from this rather smallie.

Then Phil called me for dinner. I made a final last 5 casts and on the 3rd one got another same size smallie. Gave my word to meet for dinner so no choice but to leave the fishes biting.

Then, after about few hours later, the heavens opened with a thunderstorm in Sydney. Maybe the fishes need to feed hardout knowing that the rain will come soon. Don't know lah, theory more than curry. So itch cured, theory re-adjusted, and lure got proof liao. Song song reached jurong.

No Proof For A Kick-Ass Lure

Sometimes I'm really pissed at my cheapo Sony camera that plays up on me with 'No Batt'. That's exactly what happened when you sometimes needed it most to showcase a good lure. Went down to Le Montage to lure last light condition which I haven't done much this season. Conditions were perfect with light winds and overcast sky. It was incoming tide on a practically low high-tide evening. Decided that this condition might suit lighter leader and so opted for the Nitlon DARM 5lb fluoro. Upon reaching there, there were leaves everywhere on the concrete bank. I was like virtually bushwalking. Anyway, tied on the worm 1st and casted. Was giving a little time for the worm to sink and after mucking around with the braid on my bail guide, I slowly lifted the rod and voila, a small flattie was already at the end. 1st cast hookup always indicates a likely hot session. As usual, the flattie will thrash around when up on the surface. Luckily the worm was still ok and I continued with it and on the 3rd or 4th cast, another smaller flattie crashed onto the worm and almost shot itself out onto the bank! I couldn't see the worm anymore and quickly despatched the flattie away.

Next up was a used Mojo grub. Caught a flattie too before it was ravaged by a toad right in front of me! Farkers!! Switched to a used bloodworm grub and it too got a just legal flattie. Same thing happened later when those 'bane-of-the-sps' will make short-work on the tails. Time for hardbodying. Feeling confident about the ANRE's Rapid 45DSP, I gave it another go. 1st cast and an almost legal flattie whacked the lure hard-on. That's the thrill to get the most out of flattie-fishing when using hardbodies. As usual, they will thrash around near the surface and a very very risky business to steer their head away from the leader. Wanted to take a headshot photo but alas, camera just don't want to co-operate. Never mind, maybe after awhile it'll be back-on power. Few casts later with the rapid, there was another good take. This flattie was fun, running my not-so 'steve starling pussy drag' for a few times. No breams never mind, this bugger makes up for it. The 6th flattie measured 40cm and again, the camera still didn't wanna co-operate! No choice loh.. quickly continued before the sky darkens. Moving nearer to the footbridge, the rapid had a sudden zzzzz take and gone in 2 seconds. Shit, that must have been a good bream. Scold some obsenities and continued. It was by then very dark and on a parallel cast, I felt a heavy weight and thought it might be a tree brunch. Suddenly the rod shakes and definitely not a snag! Knew straightaway it must have been a big flattie and started cranking in, only to throw hook at mid-retrieve! Sigh.. destined not to land the bigguns and since the camera plays up, I gave up and headed off. This ANRE's lure might just be in my Hall-of-Fame collection.

Went to Eastgardens to see if I can grab a copy of the 2007 Tournament Anglers Guide. Couldn't get it in Broadway so just thought maybe the newsagency there has it. Indeed it was and also ended up buying some stuffs from BigW. Brought it home and suddenly the camera wants to co-operate! Diew-na-seng!

See those articles how the pros catch fish so easy, makes me think 'really a-not'? Maybe my thinking is very Singaporean, "got fish means got fish, no fish means no fish".
