Birthday Also Can Go Fishing?!

Haha, yah loh! Well, the day before my birthday, went to five dock bay with Chen for shit results. Chen was pretty stressed from his work, and after asking me whether we should hit Clifton on Sunday, I said yes and he instantly called in sick for his Myer work, POWER!

Left on a super early April Fools day and we got to CG with already people there. However, it was surprisingly not very full and we managed quite an ok spot. Chen as usual, stuck onto his squidding straightaway. As for me, I performed my usual cubing mission and as soon as the light starts coming on, the bites came. Felt some taps and when the line felt resistance, I striked! Thought it was a typical bream hookup but this thing goes zzzzzzz sideways! The weight and power doesn't feel like a king or bonito. Luckily the bunch there were friendly, one guy actually shouted to get the lines in. He asked me to come over and I holding my cheapo ET combo fighting the fish and at the same time fumbling over to the front of the jetty. One more good dash and that was it. Saw what it was and it's a Frigate Mackeral, which was a 1st for me! Woohoo!!!

No net was needed for this fish as I gutsily lifted it up. The hook was swallowed pretty deep and that's why it was bleeding profusely. Wanted to give it a try with sashimi and so we bled it and continued fishing. One friendly asian fisho was standing beside me and he got a massive fight but he brought it up double quick time! I don't know how he did it, probably with a full-on drag and heavy leaders. The trevally he got was massive! Easily the 40+ range. Soon after, I got a huge take and my loud ET reel alarmed Chen from squidding! This one went deep and I instantly thought it was gonna be a trev too. But on a full drag, it still went down the pylons, and without haste, the 10lb vanish leader parted. I felt guted man...

Carried on and the breams were climbing on board. Probably got about 5-6 breams that day but none of good size but legals definitely. We decided to leave after it really went on quiet for quite sometime. Did noticed a group of whiskey oscar charlies emptying their catch into a pail and saw heaps of small snappers and breams. They had that 'look' as in 'what can u do about it, i'm big and u're small'. No wonder they make a bad name for migrants in oscar zulu land. KNNBCCB!

Went back Team StMike HQ and did the sashimi by yours truly. I reckon I'm hooked onto preparing sashimi, quite fun doing precision slicing.

The meat was chewy and definitely suitable for sashimi. Downside was a mistake made by me for not loosing away the red solidified blood, as it made the taste too fishy! Luckily Snow ate it and knew what was wrong and she enlightened me about this for Frigates! Can't wait to do sashimi again, yum yum!
