GTK Has Left The Building!!!

Yes, my fishing buddy cum part-time BB partner cum sinkapolean friend has decided to leave the building. After knowing him for a year plus liao I must say he will be sadly missed as my fishing master and competitor. Sadly??!! Damn BB leh!

He damn steady one, say he need to farewell fish so I on him. Actually wanted to go boating but that hirer now pattern more than badminton close shop on monday and tuesday so no choice opt for GTK's favourite land based spot which he self declare damn loud in my video say: "I LOVE IRON COVE MAN!" Win liao lor!

The day before, I needed to get Justin's 6 cans of stimulate spray so a trip was made to this tackle shop at Matraville. End up coming out of the shop $180 poorer! KNNBCCB! Me and Chen both share to buy the LineSystems 4lb PE braid and also their 6lb squid leader. Also got a can of squid attractant spray for the squid jig call Egimax.

Went off the next morning to IC with Chen and also meeting Jialiang and Patrick there. We got there 1st at first light and it was still very dark around 5+! We spooled the braid lines the night before till very late and thus definitely not enough sleep. Tied on the new squid leader and feeling not confident about the knot strength of these 2 new lines, I opted to use the cheap Daiso crank lure I got from Singapore. 1st few casts got nothing but as we moved away from the rowers club building, I got a small take and a super duper small bream ate that lure! It has been de-virginised!

Put on some stimulate and continued. Then on an almost finished retrieve, I got a take and thought this must be a better bream. Suddenly it didn't fought like a bream! It didn't take line but kept struggling non-stop! Once I got it near the surface, I was surprised it was a Luderick aka blackfish! OMG! Another blackfish on lure and this time on a hardbody! She measured 32cm.

It sure was quite a fluke to land that one! Soon, Jialiang and Patrick appeared. I then switched to my favourite IC colour bloodworm bm only to get raped by toads yet again, KNNBCCB! Worse thing happen later when I got spiked by a flathead while I was removing the hook, OUCH! KNNBCCB-PCB-PNB!!! Damn f#%king painful loh! Jialiang tried his slopy-slope but nothing spectacular came from there. Then we shifted nearer to jewfish spot and Chen was casting at my 'small window' spot. Suddenly while I was standing besides him, his tierra zzzzz! Damn shiok to hear that sound! He fought it well and landed a 32cm bream. A happy drought-free Chen indeed.

After that, it was totally dead quiet. We only managed small flatties whole morning and wasn't in great numbers. Jialiang called it off early to have Maccas breakfast. I was hoping it'll be a ripper morning session for him since it's his farewell fish. But alas it didn't turn out well for him. Don't worry brudder, wait for you to come back graduation and also my ultimate return to singa!

Overcast Day But Still Shit

Can't believe all these antics about how good fishing is when it's overcast, light winds, etc.. All BULL one lah, in the end of the day, trust yourself. So why must I whinge anyway? People always say so long go wet-a-line means is good thing, yah, right...

Anyway, I also don't know why I KPKB. Actually not bad lah, me and Chen went IC thinking it's gonna be a quickie. End up staying there too long. Why? Actually there were bites in some very prominent spot, especially the 'jewfish' spot. Firstly cast bloodworm bm and always come back minus the tails. Fuck man, I really hate those toadies! Chen was telling me he plans to make a super berley and attract them and use a big net to scoop all of them up, lol. At my 'small window' spot, suddenly I heard Chen's Tierra was singing and so busybody go check it out. He got his 1st bream on the powderful SX40 in my favourite colour 306.

So later after release I asked him "SX40 is da bomb right?". Immediately I changed to the 309 and cast at my window. 2nd cast, I got a good 1st run. Still wondering what it was till it was near my feet and it was a good size and fat 30cm whiting. Da bomb explode ah!

After trying awhile more with the SX, nothing happens. So a change to the pearl blue bm at 'jewfish' spot. Cast cast until one point I felt a bite and a little weight. I thought it was a flattie and didn't bother to strike. The moment I crank the handle, zzzzzzz ding-dong.. FAAARRRKKK!!! See... angling where got skills one, is LUCK ok! No luck go home suck thumb! As usual, the tail later got bitten off. I suspect the tackle shop owners must have introduce this pest in the water so we can keep on buying lures from them. Chen also had big runs but no hookup on his 'whole' sandworm. He was trying to do justin's style.

Then went to 'barren desert' spot and tried using SX again since it was snaggy there. Do straight forward retrieve and got a big 'bump' take and instantly I knew it was Uncle Flattie. Total dead weight with only few head shakes from this 44cm flathead.

I was surprised to see some injuries on its body and asked Chen if those 'packet' uncle got this flattie will they take home? Chen says definitely. So long their mentality is eat already won't die they also won't care what is disease or dioxins. Champion! Anyway, continued at the drain for absolutely nothing which I was quite disappointed with the drain recently. Went back to 'barren desert' spot with my fav SX. Same thing happened again. But this time I realised this bugger took the whole SX in its mouth! And it kept on thrashing around non stop, but luckily I hand steer the leader aways from its head and gently lifted the fish out when I decided to finally calmed down. It was merely a 40cm flattie but still it made more and more scratches on the already battle-scarred body of the SX.

Then the disastrous happen. Chen snagged his SX48 and the tackleback didn't work! KNNBCCB stupid invention! So no choice but to cut the line and tie onto a styrofoam which we'll go back later at low tide and get it. Sianz...

Big Bream On Overlooked Lure

It has been a super duper long absence of luring for me since the weather has been strong north-easter and hot weather. Went out on Sunday for a really crappy wind and super hot day! Sweat like hell non-stop and only managed smallish flatty and bream and snagged 2 softies! KNNBCCB! Waste effort siah!

So I thought, must redeem myself. Excuse lah! Want to fish say go fishing lah, bo liao leh! Ok, nowadays I realised my blog getting more vulgar and singlish-cised. The wind finally died down after an entire week and it was blowing a mild southerly. So a trip was made to Iron Cove. Alas, was supposed to call Jialiang out but ended up also woke up late and was already highest tide over there. So decided a quickie will do. Saw a lure I super long never used already and gave the pearl blue bm a go. Few casts later, got a good solid take at jewfish spot! This one went ballistic and gave 4 good hardout runs! Damn shiok fight from this 37cm bream, had a few dramas trying to bring her up cos the nearby steps was blocked by overgrown tree branches! KNNBCCB!

Since no one was there to help me take picture, no choice have to improvise and use the 10secs auto function. So funny, somemore got people walk here walk there see this asian take picture with fish like some stupid tourist..

Continue down towards the drain with assortment of hardbodies but only few bumps here and there but no hookup. Used the sandworms and other soft plastics only to get raped by the usual CB toads. Tried the new lure I got from eBay which is the ZipBaits Rigge and only managed one super duper small baby flatty.

That was it. Not a hot session but at least got a big bream which was fun and fulfilling. Hoo Yah!

No Kings Then Bream Loh!

The other day went for a quick lunch break quickie with Chen at Iron Cove. First stop was the drain but the wind was blowing 'in our face'. The casting was totally crap and we decided to shift to the La Montage side. While we were there, saw an asian with 4 rods and casting just below the footbridge. Another baiter who probably likes lead and mercury in their diet. I was amazed with that spot in the sense that there was no puffers stealing our sandworms the whole time! Even with casting very parallel to the banks. On a particular twitch with the 'tail' section of the worm, I got a take and it was quite an alright fight from this 28cm bream.

The colour on this bream was beautiful. One of the best healthy looking fish I've seen.

Went to Hen and Chicken bay one super early morning at 5am. The sky was still dark. No choice but to wear headtorch. Attached my favourite SX40 and started the 'poor mans' stretch but nothing. Then it was about bloody time I head up to the end of the bay and fish the road stretch. Why I hated to fish there is because everytime when there's cars passing by, they will horn as if to get my attention and it always startled me! KNNBCCB! Eat full got nothing to shit is it? Anyway, it was weekend so not much cars around. Few cast at the spot later I got a lousy fight from a 30cm bream on my SX.

As I was fishing, I saw another aussie guy luring there as well. He walked past me and we said our Hi's. He was only there for awhile cos' he was complaining about the action not being hot. It was quite true, I thought the weather and wind was perfect and the tide was high but still so-so. There was quite a lot of surface activity as well. So when a mullet made a splash near where I was, I made a cast of the bloodworm bm there. A slow-roll twitch and I felt a fish was taking off so instantly I strike. Woohoo, this time round the fish took some drag and gave me quite a good fight. But it was only a disappointing 30cm bream.

Not long later, I snagged the bm, basket! Called it off since the tide was f#%kin low. Went to maccas and tried out the Deluxe Brekkie Roll ($5!), not that spectacular leh...

Crap Luring And A New Lure

Lately it has been crap luring again. Don't know is my skill crap or just my luck simply crap. Maybe is because long time never go luring with Gong Tao Kia that's why no chance to sapo his Gong Tao. hehe.. He damn power nowadays, just called me yesterday from Clifton Gardens that he landed a 50+ king and his gf got a bust-off plus big trevallies all above 40cm. To rub salt in wound, the day he had such a good day was the day our brooker died in the middle of the shipping channel in the harbour. Sigh, only the 3rd trip and we ended up being towed back by water police, KNNBCCB.. PCBPNB!

Went to Putney again because of the NE winds lately. Didn't want to go that spot cos' it didn't really produce last few trips and thought of giving up that spot but still give it a try anyway. Basket, it was really a wrong move. My sandworms are depleting super fast. The puffers there are deeper and smarter, always chewing up my plastic in ferocious bites. Just took a pic of a biddy that took my sx fiercely, which I always love them doing it and this was more special because I was twitching it in less that a feet of water.

Went for a quickie during thesis time at IC drain. When I reached there, the easterly wind was blowing. My favourite 'under the tree' spot was taken by a homie on bicycle. Think he must be a regular, always bringing 3 overhead sets for baiting breams?! Had no choice but to stay at the adjacent side, with the wind blowing 'in my face'! Since the usual SX40 might be too light to cast against the wind, I opted for the 48. Can't achieve a good distance but gotta make do with it. Luckily the wind didn't create a huge arc on the line and sensing the bottom and bites were easy. Few casts later I scored a 25cm bream with not much fight but this is the first bream for the SX48. Probably due to the injury it had on the side of its body??

Poor fishy, hope it's alright, not to mention I hooked it and cause some sort of trauma to it?! Shit.. think so much I might as well work for RSPCA. Not long later, I felt something on my line and thought it was a leave or something. But then suddenly there was some shaking and I knew it was a fish. Jeez.. this just-undersized whiting didn't manage to hit my lure at all or maybe the wind caused me to miss the strike feeling. However, it made up for its fight, by taking some line out which was not too bad.

Tied on a used sandworm only to come back empty! F%$kin puffers. Then, no choice use a new one and changed to a 2g jighead. Casted very near to the floating debris trap and voila, got a hookup. This fish did the same ol. It went under the trapper and wrap my mainline around the railing. Heart stopping action again, cos' I tried acrobatic movements to free spool my line this time and in an awkward position, I managed to coax it out! Yeeha! Battle won but only just an undersized bream, basket! Still, it was a dirty fight and I love it! But the sandworm got snagged in the next cast just on the drop! I didn't even managed to twitch it it already got stuck! Basket, I obviously left straightaway!

Came back to Stmike to find a parcel in my room. Ooh, it's a lure I ordered from eBay. It's been sometime since I have bought lures from eBay. Because of the current breaming craze I'm facing, I tried to find smallish cool looking hardbodies. Came across this DEEP RIGGE 35F from ZipBaits.

Man.. this lure cost me 24 bucks from the land of rising sun. Better take good care of it.. I like pampering myself.. hehe..

Strictly Breaming

These days I must have gotten the bream poison. Kept on exclusively targetting breams. Anyway, Chen hasn't been luring for a very long time so he gave me a sms and we headed out for a short morning session. 1st up was Hen & Chicken Bay and the tide was still coming in. Whack the spot hard but only to get our sandworms raped. Tried the SX nobody likes. Only managed smallish breams walking towards the end of the bay, and I told Chen that luring seems better at the end of every f#&kin bay! Suddenly the sky turned dark pretty fast and we had to scoot to my car and the exercise was cut short, basket!

On the way back the rain stopped. Just when I was around Iron Cove, I told Chen let's give the drain a go. He was using the "Natural" sandworms and doing the slow roll. There was a big take and I could hear his Tierra "zzz" awhile! He missed yet again as it did also happen while at HC earlier. As the water was too high, my SX probably wasn't at the strikezone. So I still continued with the worms and eventually got rewarded with a 28cm bream which pulled some line.

Still managed to get smallish breams here and there before we decided to call it off as Chen was getting tired of losing rigs. He's still struggling to get used to his RackRaider/Tierra outfit but it won't be long till he starts nailing bigguns.

Went to the IC drain yet again by my own for a 2 hour session before work. The night before I've been using superglue to join up the shredded worms so that it could be re-used. It's cheapskate but the plastics don't come cheap. Managed to make 3 worms after trimming here and there and so they got the start. On the 1st cast of the re-used worm, I got a just legal bream I reckon. Not bad for a start. But as expected, the 3 worms didn't last long for any other hookups. Luring is definitely an expensive hobby! Tried the bloodworm grub for a smallish bream and soon later it lost it's tail! Changed to SX but the outgoing tide doesn't make the lure swim straight! Use a 3" pseed bm only to have its tail bitten off in just a few casts! Basket! I'm so fed-up with these shits kept happening! Almost decided to call it quits just after an hour but kept going at the adjacent spot of the drain. The wind was slightly blowing at me but didn't deter my cast much. On a drop, I registered a bump and started winding it in thinking it might have been a leaf or something. Then, a run occurred and suddenly the surface exploded! But the line was loose and thought the fish had unhooked, I was like WTF??!! I then reeled in sadly but suddenly the line got straightened and Kixy was singing hardout. The fish went below the metal railings beside the floating debris cage. I could feel the 6lb leader rubbing against railings. My heart was pumping and I was madly challenged to steer the fish out and back off the drag. Luckily these few actions made the fight a truly memorable experience rather than fighting a fish in open water. Soon, it got tired and I lifted a 33cm bream out. The leader was badly chaffed.

I then realised fighting fish with light gear is truly sensational and especially special if it requires quick thinking to outsmart these breams.
