Shit Fishing Days Looming

The past week has been continuous rain and cold westerly winds. This had and will probably put down the bites of the fishes. Over the Anzac holiday, it was raining and so our boat trip was not a go'er. It was still raining on thursday but as soon as the sky cleared a little by mid afternoon, I snuck out for a quickie. Got there kinda late and the high tide wasn't impressive. Put on the River2Sea static shad and when trying to spray some ultrabite, the bloody can doesn't work again! It was pretty quiet initially till when I thought I hit some snag, I started cranking in fast. Suddenly a fish jumped onto the lure and I knew it was a pesky tailor!

Ok lah, at least lure not virgin liao. Continued with the lure and got a timid hit and totally no struggles at all. It was just a baby bream, but quite well hooked on a size 16 owner ST-36.

Soon, the light had faded. I went to my Lucky LC tango and did a slow roll. Once it got near the bank, the lure powered off. The pulls were strong, but this 30cm bugger didn't take much line, just jerking along the way.

Continued for another 30mins without anymore hits and I knew it was dud. The tide was quite low by now and I wrapped up for joe's dinner.

With the thoughts of getting nasi campur since I hadn't had it for quite sometime, I went to wet my line again and skipped nancy's dinner. Went off to Hen & Chicken Bay after a super long absence and got to the drains. The journey there was pretty trafficky and thus reached there quite late. Threw in my Gulp grub and on the 1st drop, there were hits already. But that was all it mustered up, except for one drop flattie which I reckon was small. Got fed-up with that spot and left for Iron Cove. Once I reached IC, it was already dark. Use the previous grub and was starting to find a patch of flatties territory. Got a total of 4 with the biggest one at 43cm. I was surprised that only this ONE grub could withstand so many flatties thrashings! I kept re-rigging it by poking here and there to make the smashed gulp stay on the jighead, yes, I'm cheapskate! The bloody camera played on me when I wanted to take a pic of the 43.

Got a 2 more small breams on the same grub before it really couldn't stay on the jighead anymore. Nice, 1 gulp = 6 fishes. As the water was kinda low by now, I gave tango another run. Stupid ultrabite can still cannot spray. On about less than 50cm of water, I kept getting hits near the oyster encrusted rocks but couldn't hook up, the risk of modded lures! Refined the technique a bit and paused the lure many times. Finally it works and got a 28cm bream. Suddenly the camera wanted to co-operate!

It was late and I was very tired by then. Such is NO LIFE. Haiz.. don't think so much and go get my fix.

From the looks of it, you were having a ball, with the amount of fish caught (in your previous posts as well).

Anyway, just wondering whether you're in Australia. They look like Australian, but your profile says Singapore.

G'day Raymond. Thanks mate, I've been breaming pretty hardout recently and absolutely loved it!

Are u singaporean as well? I've been here for more than 6 years liao. Going back this year, sianz... I've seen your msn space, u're studying in Bris-Vegas? Up north fishing is definitely better. btw, I'm in sydney.

Yeah, I've narrowed myself to breaming - can't afford so many setups for different applications. I'd rather have one or two nice outfits then many average outfits.

I also don't have the time that you seem to have to go fishing. You seem to go quite often, and are quite successful. It's mostly a bit of a hit and miss for me.

I'm from Hong Kong and have been in Brisbane for 10 years now, and now doing second year in civil engineering.

I'll add you on MSN soon. None of my friends are really into this aspect of fishing.

I see how it is; finishing your degree here and get a job back at home.

I don't know whether I call Australia home, or HK home. But I think I'll stay after I finish uni. I was born in Australia, so it was an 'automatic' citizenship for me. But I did live in HK for quite a number of years in between then and now.

Keep up the fishing though. That's what I like to read, haha.

Oh, how Singapore reminds me of Beach Rd, haha.

I heard HK the tackles cheap over there right? Beach rd some stuffs are cheaper than Oz but probably lures and terminal tackles. Reels and rods I find it's about the same though u get more jap stuffs in sg.

Thanks for being a 'fan'.. hehe.. well, i set up the blog so that my friends can read it and also for memory keep sake. Sadly when I leave here, i'll miss the breams and flatheads here.. and also the 'finesse' fishing, lol.

btw, U been to sydney b4?

Tackle prices in HK is not bad, but not so cheap that I'm tempted to load my house full of fishing gear. I mostly like to check out the reels and the lures, most Japanese gear.

I used to frequent Triton (biggest chain in HK) a lot, so I'm under their VIP scheme (85% off discount). So not bad as well. I tend to buy my gear from HK, because by the time any gear gets to Australia, it's at some overpriced price.

Oh well, you don't get to bream or flathead. But don't you get peakcock bass? I guess you'll just have to start your own trend back in Singapore. Who would've thought bream on lures would've made it this far.

Sydney, only twice when I was younger. Last time was back when I had my year 7 camp.

Wah, lucky you! I heard about Triton, and somemore u r their VIP?! Beach road mostly small shops but at least can shop around for best prices.

Peacock bass?! Haha.. No choice, have to make do. :P But will see the difference in approach, I'll finesse them ala OZ style!

Well, if u do pop down by this year, we can certainly hook up for fishing.
