Squids But No Kings
WTF??!! Can score squids easily but cannot convert them to kingfish? Yah lor.. stupid right? Anyway, the story is like this. Me and Chen supposed to head out on Saturday but weather was like shit, it rained yet again in the morning. Chen woke up at 3am to find that outside was raining. So we called it off and he headed for work in Myers instead. He was supposed to be rostered for Sunday as well but my deprived fish-craze partner said enough is enough. He called off the shift and obviously a bummer like me will be his boat tower that day. His friend also joined us and so we headed out in the wee hours of just before 4am. Got to the spit and already saw quite a few boats there trying for squids. We found an empty spot and decided to anchor there. But suddenly we realised that no one was anchoring and obviously with a narrow channel there, it was not wise to do that. So, pulled up the anchor and hopefully we don't drift too much. Luckily the current complied and we weren't drifting too fast. 1st squid up was by Chen's friend and he was absolutely pro in squidding as he often done it in his home-waters, Port Hacking. It was small but nonetheless he got our respect. Then later on, it was Chen's turn, but he again got haunted by... a cuttlefish! These buggers can spray a lot of ink like no tommorrow! However, Chen made it up by scoring a big calamari later on. I was still eating eggs but after hammering constantly a spot I felt hold squids, I was rewarded with a good size arrow. It was mayhem time.. as more and more squids were landed and many lost. At one point, 2 squids were fighting over the Yo-Zuri jig that Chen's friend was using! We also felt that the success was owed to Egimax Glow. Soon, it was pretty quiet and the light was up. We left and headed straight for the cake, ignoring to get yellowtails since we've got plenty of squid baits.
To cut the story even shorter, it was totally dead! Only a leatherjacket was landed by Chen when he hooked it on a 1/0 hook! Well done bro, that sure is a big-ass LJ! Pulled the plug and was gonna plan to head to another spot when suddenly the motor played up again! It made Chen worried and we quickly headed back for the ramp. Hopefully it was no big problem as we later diagnosed that it might be the bloody crap socket in the fuel hose that doesn't wanna stay connected on the tank!
